Therapy that goes beneath the surface.
Individual psychotherapy in NYC for adults and emerging adults navigating anxiety, identity, culture, and the patterns that keep showing up.
How therapy works with me?
I offer individual, long-term, insight-oriented psychotherapy for adults and emerging adults in New York City and virtually throughout New York State.
Long-term doesn't mean forever. It means I'm not interested in quick fixes that fall apart when life gets hard again. I want to help you understand the patterns underneath, the ones you inherited from your family and your culture, the ones shaped by the systems you grew up inside, and the ones you've been running on for so long you forgot they were optional.
Therapy isn't something you only do when things fall apart. It's the ongoing work of knowing yourself, being honest with yourself, and learning to exist in the world without editing who you are depending on the room. Especially when you've spent your whole life code-switching between cultures and identities that don't always fit together.
That kind of self-understanding takes time, and it's some of the most important work you can do.
The work we actually get into
WHAT TENDS TO COME UP IN THERAPY. NONE OF IT IS A FLAW. ALL OF IT MAKES SENSE.
“I believe that healing isn’t about becoming someone new, but coming home to who you’ve always been—one layer at a time.”
-Suyana Handman

Questions you might be sitting with
-
No. You don't need a diagnosis or a dramatic story. A lot of my clients come in saying "I just know something's off." That's enough.
-
We talk. I ask about what brought you here and what your life looks like right now. But mostly I want to get a sense of who you are. Think of it less like an intake and more like a real conversation.
-
Yes. And for a lot of my clients in New York City, being able to log on without fighting the subway actually makes them more present in session.
-
Your cultural context won't be an afterthought here. It will be central to the work. And as someone who has navigated bicultural identity myself, I'm not coming at this from a textbook. I'm coming at it from lived experience.
-
Yes. Your parents' sacrifices don't mean you're not allowed to want something different. Wanting to understand yourself isn't a betrayal of where you came from. It's one of the most courageous things you can do with the opportunities they fought for.
-
It depends on you and what you're working through. Some people stay a few months. Many of my clients work with me for a year or longer. We check in regularly to make sure the work still feels right.
